TIM AND ANN O’RIORDAN FELLOWSHIP IN SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

This fellowship, endowed in memory of his wife by Tim O’Riordan, OBE, DL, FBA, Emeritus Professor of Environmental Sciences at the University of East Anglia, is awarded to an incoming doctoral student working on sustainable development in a broad interdisciplinary perspective, ideally with some reference to British Columbia.


It currently has a value of $15,000 p.a. and may be held for a maximum of four consecutive years, subject to satisfactory academic progress. The award is made by the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies on a recommendation from Green College and, with the approval of the sponsoring department and of the Faculty, may be held in conjunction with other major awards.The holder has the status of Non-Resident Member of Green College in virtue of the fellowship, unless they happen to be or to become a Resident Member of the College.


It is a condition of the fellowship that the holder make a public presentation on their research at the College in the final year of the award, for which additional resources may be available from the College.


Procedure and deadline:

UBC academic units admitting doctoral students to begin work in this field in 2018 are invited to forward complete application files (edited as appropriate, but including, as a minimum, research proposal, full academic transcripts and letters of reference; max. three per sponsoring unit), as attachments, to Tania Astorino, Academic Program Manager, Green College, tania.astorino@ubc.ca by 31 January 2018. Selection of the O’Riordan Fellow will be made by a committee struck for the purpose by the Principal of Green College, and subject to final approval by G+PS. It is expected that results will be notified to units by mid-February.
