CALL FOR PROPOSALS: GREEN COLLEGE THEMATIC LECTURE-SERIES FOR 2010-2011

CALL FOR PROPOSALS: GREEN COLLEGE THEMATIC LECTURE-SERIES FOR 2010-2011
The Academic Committee of Green College solicits proposals for an interdisciplinary lecture-series to be held at the College between September 2010 and April 2011.

Proposals should be for a series of at least six and not more than eight lectures, to be given by distinguished scholars or other experts who, in most cases, would not otherwise be heard on the UBC campus in that year. The series should have a unifying theme that crosses academic disciplines. Previous series have focused, for example, on “Intelligent Machines,” “The Shifting Foundations of Modern Nation-States,” “Perspectives on the Child across Time, Space, and Disciplines,” and “Love, Hate and Fear in Canada’s Cold War.” Proposals should take the form of a letter outlining the importance and interdisciplinary interest of the chosen theme, a possible slate of speakers and their subjects, a budget for travel costs, and a scheme of publication.

Green College will provide up to three nights’ accommodation for each visitor, in the College’s Guest House, and a budget of $5000 to defray travel expenses. Further College funding to a maximum of $2500 will be available to match contributions from other sources and it is expected that the successful application will include a significant commitment of partnership funding.

Proposals are to be submitted by March 31, 2010 to Ms Kelly Parkatti, Program and Communications Manager, Green College, 6201 Cecil Green Park Road, V6T 1Z1, . Results will be notified by the end of April. Inquiries may be addressed to Ms Parkatti or to the Principal of Green College, Dr Mark Vessey, gc.principal@ubc.ca.
